Volvo to Cut Fuel Consumption by up to 20 Percent with New Flywheel Technology

Volvo has been awarded a 6.57-million-Swedish-kronar ($1.06-million) grant from the Swedish Energy Agency to develop the next-generation flywheel technology for kinetic recovery of braking energy in collaboration with Volvo Powertrain and SKF.
Flywheel technology, for those of you who haven't heard of it, is light, inexpensive, and very efficient. It has the capacity to make four-cylinder engines feel like six-cylinders and at the same time enhance fuel economy by 20 percent.
