As we enter the new year, Weston Volvo, serving Ft Lauderdale, Florida thought we'd share a look back at the year 2011 for Volvo enthusiasts to revel in. Not only did we see the introduction of the Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid, Volvo C30 Electric,  Volvo S60 DRIVe, Volvo V60 DRIVe , the addition of start/stop technology, and a critical electric mobility partnership between Volvo and Siemens in 2011. Volvo also took home 5 awards from the IIHS for safety and 1 from J.D. Powers & Associates for quality. But, the automakers greatest milestones over the past year, in our opinion, were achieved through sales, innovation, and their ability to connect with consumers on a more personal level.

Though many automakers lost consumer favor in specific markets in 2011, Volvo achieved healthy growth in each and every one of its sales regions, making it the fastest-growing luxury car brand in the world with 550,000 vehicles sold worldwide. This has positioned the automaker to set lofty sales goals for itself in the future. In an effort to achieve continued growth and profitability, the company has set their 2020 global sales goal at 800,000 units. This is, of course, largely contingent upon their ability to harness the vast growth potential in China, which they certainly have a lot of competition for.

Volvo also announced something called Scalable Product Architecture (SAP) in 2011. With a new powerplant and EV strategy, SAP promises forthcoming technologies that will make Volvo one of the foremost leaders in fuel economy.

Sales and technology aside, Volvo made the time in 2011 to infuse their brand with a more personal, human element and introduced the distinctive, thought-provoking tagline "Designed Around You". Essentially, communicating that they understand human needs and desires and vow to bring drivers all of the luxury they could dream of, without the overly-complicated frills.
