Volvo Achieves World-First in Hybrid Market

The new Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid represents more than just a new model for Volvo; it is the world's first-ever diesel plug-in hybrid. And, like anything Volvo does, they did it right.

The Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid channels 215 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque form its gasoline engine and 70 horsepower and 147 lb.-ft. of torque from its electric engine to deliver drivers a riveting total power output of 285 horsepower and 362 lb.-ft. of toque.

To allow drivers to indulge in or conserve power, depending on their mood, Volvo has even integrated the new plug-in hybrid with three different driving modes. These include Pure, Power and Hybrid. Pure translates to pure-electric driving, which drivers can enjoy for a range of 32 miles on a full charge. Power, draws on combined hp and torque. Hybrid is the Goldilocks option if you will, offering greater efficiency and less CO2 emissions than the Power mode and less efficiency and more CO2 emissions than the Pure mode.

Of course, such a distinct model needs a unique look. As such, Volvo is featuring theV60 Plug-In Hybrid only in Electric Silver. As for the interior - it's one-of-a-kind. In addition to a schema of gorgeous Scandinavian-inspired accents, it's finessed with entertainment features galore, including a high-performance multimedia DVD audio system.

Speaking on the new Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid, Stefan Jacoby, President & CEO, Volvo says, "Our plug-in hybrid has received considerable attention since it was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011. Now we're taking the next step by presenting the production model, which is graced with a distinctive profile featuring a spectacular silver color, and exclusive interior and generous standard equipment."1

As far as availability is concerned, Volvo is planning to release 1,000 units primarily to select Nordic markets in 2012, for the 2013 model year. For the 2014 model year, that number will grow to between 4,000 and 6,000 units. We're hoping that by then, it makes its way to America. Though we certainly can't make any promises yet. And just remember, while our new Volvo lineup might not feature the V60 Plug-In Hybrid now, it does include a wide variety of other riveting, high-efficiency models. Feel free to explore them anytime online or in person at Weston Volvo during our regular business hours, we're located at 3650 Weston Road in Davie, FL 33331!
